Sutton Grammar School

Over the summer holiday, four SGS students were awarded a prestigious Gold CREST award for their research projects in Biology. Tarun Sharma and Gilbert Knight (Y13) explored the effects nutrients on yeast and E.coli growing together. They used a range of techniques including quantitative PCR in collaboration with Ms Q. Karlsson at the ICR Sutton. Lincoln Chow (Y12) for his research on food additives and genetically modified foods. And Liam Sahai (Y11) for his work on targeted harmless pesticides where he investigated how sound deters fruit flies. Due to the quality of Liam’s work his award was upgraded from Silver to Gold. Some of the research in these and ongoing projects was made possible due to a generous grant from the PTA.
