It’s been a bumper time for the Geography Department in the summer term, with several memorable trips bringing classroom theory to life - from urban transformation in Stratford to coastal dynamics at Brighton, plus local fieldwork in Sutton.
Our Year 11 students travelled to Stratford to investigate the social, economic and environmental impacts of Olympic-led regeneration, conducting transect surveys, environmental quality assessments and public questionnaires around East Village and the old Carpenters Estate. Year 10 ventured to Beddington Park to explore the River Wandle, donning wellies and sandals to measure width, depth and flow at multiple points, practising data collection skills and observing fluvial change downstream. During Activities Week, Year 9 visited Brighton to examine coastal processes and management, profiling beaches, studying sediment and evaluating defences such as groynes and sea‑walls; and another Year 9 group surveyed community views in Sutton on the proposed redevelopment of the old B&Q site to investigate neighbourhood attitudes towards local urban change.
