Writing on how game theory might be used to assess risks during a mugging, Alex Bucur 12D  was declared the overall winner in the Gerald O'Connell Economics Essay Competition. Awarded annually by Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, Alex was praised for both the originality of his writing as well as his strong quantitative analysis. Attending a recent awards ceremony at the college, Alex was presented with both a certificate and his £200 prize by the college's Director of Studies in Economics, Dr Anna Watson (pictured above).

Separately, Alex is also to be congratulated on winning the UK round of the International Economics Olympiad. This is another excellent achievement and we wish him continued success when he leads the UK team in the international final, taking place at the end of July, in Baku in Azerbaijan. International Economics Olympiad.
