Year 7 “Take 10 to Read” event

14 Oct 2026
Sutton Grammar School

A group of Year 7 students recently took part in the Take 10 to Read event, hosted by the National Literacy Trust and the British Council. The event aimed to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most people reading online within a 12-hour period.

To begin the event, students enjoyed an inspiring talk from author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who shared his passion for books, reading and storytelling. They then joined the nationwide countdown and spent ten minutes immersed in a book of their choice.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to celebrate the joy of reading, take part in a world record attempt and mark World Mental Health Day, highlighting the positive impact that reading can have on wellbeing.
