Ski Trip to Austria

The 2026 ski trip lacked three things: boredom, disappointment, and sleep—and it was all the better for it. From the stunning views of the Austrian Alps to the warm company of fellow Suttonians, our week in Altenmarkt was anything but ordinary.

The Altenmarkt-Zauchensee ski area offered slopes for all abilities, from beginner-friendly drag lifts and gentle greens to challenging black runs. We were lucky to arrive on Sunday morning to perfect powder conditions. The joy of carving fresh tracks down a red run is hard to beat. Our ski instructors pushed us to improve while always keeping a watchful eye on those who needed support.

Our hostel on the edge of town was always a welcome sight after a long day on the slopes. The food was quickly devoured and thoroughly enjoyed, but what everyone looked forward to most were the evening activities. First came Assassin: each person had a name—and one goal: eliminate their target without being caught. Then there was the Sixth Form quiz, featuring rounds such as Shakespearean music lyrics, SGS general knowledge, and karaoke. Finally came Mr Bangs’ category quiz.

Once the activities were over and the trips to Billa had ended, it was off to bed—for a long night of chatting, laughing, and very rarely… sleeping.
