Death of a Salesman theatre trip

20 May 2025
Sutton Grammar School

On Wednesday, 23 April, two minibuses (expertly driven by Ms Roberts and Mr Karlsson) journeyed north to the far-off destination of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.  Inside each vehicle, excited members of Year 12 and Year 13 English Literature classes, talked enthusiastically about what would await - once we'd navigated the Heathrow stretch of the M25.  It didn't disappoint!  Enter stage right, famed Scottish thespian, David Hayman (he starred alongside Bruce Willis in The Jackal, amongst other things) brandishing his battered valises - the worn-out tools of his trade.  Thankfully, the casting, costume and staging was entirely faithful to this important A level set text, which some consider to be America's 'greatest play'; and, as the teary-eyed students and staff floated out of Wycombe's Swan theatre into the crisp night air, they were better able to reflect on man's tragic selfishness within a capitalist world.
