Meet Our Development Officer

Sutton Grammar School

My name is Jevan Agama. Some in the school may remember me as a former pupil, but I am now the new Sutton Grammar School Development Officer before I start a job at Ernst & Young in September. After graduating from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Economics, I worked in insolvency and had the pleasure of backpacking around Southeast Asia before returning to my spiritual home: SGS.

During my time at the school, I was an avid sportsman, enjoying representing the school in both football and athletics, as well as being a keen member of the CCF. What I enjoyed most about my time here, however, was the sense of pride and community I felt whilst at school; it has been a real joy to see this still thriving among staff, students, and parents.

Sadly, many state schools find it incredibly difficult to provide such rich and diverse opportunities for their pupils with government funding alone. My role fits into a model that most schools now have: ensuring that we work and communicate better with parents and alumni, whilst also providing greater opportunities for our students.

Many parents want to support the school, and we have created a dedicated avenue to engage with parents about their contributions and to discuss the difference that their generosity will make. To those parents with whom I have had the pleasure of speaking, thank you very much for your time; I have thoroughly enjoyed communicating with our wider community.

As someone who benefitted greatly from both the exceptional teaching and the wide range of extra‑curricular opportunities on offer here, I am keen to ensure that current students see their talents, curiosity, and ambitions matched. I want them to be afforded the same, if not better, opportunities that make me so fond of my time as a student at SGS and that allowed me to grow into the person I am today.

My door is always open to students who would like to know more about life immediately after SGS, and to parents who would like to find out more about the work of my office and our future plans!
