On Thursday, 20 November, the A-level Design and Technology class visited the Design Museum in order to support our NEA portfolios, invoke inspiration and learn more about what it means to be a designer. We visited the 'Designer Maker User' exhibition which is full of iconic designs such as the wiggle chair, a chair constructed out of cardboard alone with the aim of testing the limits of design.
Additionally, we took the opportunity to analyse the incredible architecture of the museum’s flowing design. We were also able to see how design in the technology industry has changed over time from large, bulky but colourful designs to the hyper-minimalist designs we see and interact with today.
In relation to our course, we each sketched designs that intrigued us in order to support our palette seating project and presented what we learnt to the rest of the group. While it is true that you could see all of this online, being able to visit these iconic designs in person and properly investigate the designer's process and method of construction allowed us to gather a real idea of how a designer thinks.
Overall, it was a fun and informative day out with plenty of chances for inspiration to strike.
