2026/27 SGS Chess Team

11 Jun 2026
Sutton Grammar School

The SGS Chess Team is one of the strongest overall chess teams in the country. Boasting many outstanding players and forming a central part of the school community.

Next year we are transforming team selection- rather than an A, B and C team, we are having a SGS Owl Team (Y11-post-16); SGS Juvies Team (Y9-10); SGS Branchers Team (Y7-8).

The league we enter is still the same. To be part of a team you must have:

1. A proven (screen shot) rating of at least 1100 and above on chess.com or Lichess on at least 10min games.

2. Availability to play in the evenings after school on Friday.

3. Commitment to not miss a match.

All games played for all three teams are 25mins +5sec increment per move. They are all over the board games.

If you would like to be part of one of the teams but have never played before for SGS, please can you send me the attached form.

If you were part of the team before and would like to continue playing, please fill out the form.

If you were part of the team but have other commitments this year, so would rather not play, please do not fill out the form.

If you were part of the team in the past and would like to rejoin, please fill out the form.

If you aren't quite good enough but would still like to represent SGS, we also have an online Lichess Team (simply search sutton grammar school team in Lichess and join).

The form is open till 1st September so if your rating isn't quite there yet- there's still time to improve it. Just save filling in the form until the end of summer!
