House Chess

11 Jun 2026
Sutton Grammar School

House Chess has finally concluded and it was pleasing to see that Chess remains a strong part of the school community. The results are as follows:

  1. Manor: 54 points
  2. Lenham: 41 points
  3. Greyhound: 40.5 points
  4. Warwick: 34.5 points
  5. Throwley: 34 points

Within each year group, two wins for Manor clinched their victory:

Y7: Warwick, Lenham, Greyhound

Y8: Manor, Greyhound, Lenham

Y9: Manor, Lenham, Greyhound

Y10: Throwley, Manor, Warwick

Although Manor took the win once again, they were definitely rivalled this time. Both Lenham and Greyhound showed that they have some pretty nifty members too.

Some facts about House Chess:
-Y7 Manor were the first year group to come last in house chess for Manor since I've been running house chess...
-Y8 Manor scored the highest number of points
-Y9 Warwick scored the lowest number of points
-The Y10 house chess had the highest number of draws
-Y9 Throwley lost one game by turning up late...
-A Y9 Manor player, won a game in under a minute of clocks starting.
-Warwick scored four times what they did last year.
-Greyhound doubled their score from last year.
-Throwley had the most consistent performance with x3 fourth places
-Y7 Throwley was the only Y7 team to completely lose a match...
-The highest scoring team for Greyhound was in Y8 (despite having an FM in Y7...)
-8 teams in total lost a match completely (0 points scored)
-If House Chess was just Y7 and Y9, Lenham would have won.
-If House Chess was just Y7 and Y10, Manor would have come last and Warwick would have come first.

Well done all for participating in house chess!
