Magic in Granada: a school trip to remember

Back in January, a collection of Year 11 and sixth form students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Andalusian city of Granada, complete with stunning Moorish architecture, live flamenco performances, and unsurprisingly popular padél courts.
The five days provided ample opportunity to improve our Spanish skills, with most of our mornings spent at a Spanish language school, where we swapped our grammar worksheets with general conversations and cultural presentations, and, at one point, an inspired dance performance.

In the afternoons, we left the classroom for a host of activities, including a passionate flamenco workshop, an eccentric tour of the house of poet and playwright Frederico Lorca, and a guided tour of the city, where we visited the oldest non-religious building in Granada and the famous view of the Alhambra from Albaicín (the Moorish quarter of the city). And, of course, the Alhambra itself, an architectural and historical marvel, complete with impeccably preserved tiling and reliefs, famous statues, and endless stories from our Spanish tour guide- in Spanish, of course. We summitted the old watchtower to a view of the whole city that was simply breathtaking. It would be difficult to choose the crowning highlight of the trip, but the Alhambra would certainly contest (alongside the cooking lesson that culminated with a stunning Paella for lunch).

All in all, the trip was beyond memorable, and for this, I must thank Señora Hall for organising the trip, as well as Señora McDonald and Señor Blunt for accompanying us during the week. I would highly recommend fellow students to sign up for this trip in future years- or indeed visit the city in your own time- I know I will most definitely be returning to experience more of what this remarkable city has to offer.
