On June 24th we will be hosting our annual Higher Education and Careers afternoon. The afternoon involves us inviting SGS alumni, parents and friends of the school to come in and talk to our Year 12 students about their education and career paths, as a means of guiding students through their current considerations of UCAS and post-18 options. It is a day that students get a great deal from, and we really appreciate the support of anyone able to come into school at a time when students have many options open to them and therefore difficult decisions to face.
Below are details of how the event will run. If you are available to come in on the afternoon, please let us know by means of completing this form.
If you have any questions about the day or your role in it, please do not hesitate to get in touch here.
Arrival to school
Please arrive to school for 14:00 to the school’s main reception. We will meet you and introduce you to the member of staff who will be taking you to your room for the afternoon. It should be noted that there will be no parking facilities on site, though there is a multi-storey parking facility at Times Square. If this is a concern or issue for anyone, please let us know.
Sessions
From 14:15-15:15 you will be hosted in a room, either as the sole speaker or with another person from a similar field. Students will visit a different room every 20 minutes in order that they have access to a range of voices. They will plan their sessions in advance to maximise the impact of the event.
There is no need to prepare a presentation, following a quick introduction in each room, students will be able to speak to you about your pathway or career. If there are several of you in a room, we will arrange you at separate tables, so that students can speak to as many people as possible.
From 15:15-15:35, Mrs McDonald will ask for visitors who have experience of, or who are currently attending, either Oxford or Cambridge universities to speak to our applicants in the Drama Studio.
End of day
There will be tea, coffee and biscuits on offer for all speakers in the canteen. This is an opportunity for you to share experiences with other speakers and for us to thank you again for your attendance.
If you have any questions about the day, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Chris Robson
