During the Summer Term at SGS, the topics taught and discussed in Personal Development lessons are as follows:
Year 7
During the first half of the Summer Term have been looking at healthy and unhealthy relationships, managing interpersonal conflict, and an introduction to the concept of consent.
During the second half of the Summer Term they will be looking at the ideas of identity and community, bias and stereotypes, and discrimination and the Protected Characteristics.
Year 8
During the first half of the Summer Term have been looking at the risks related to substance use, particularly caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.
During the second half of the Summer Term they will be looking at challenges around friendship; particularly navigating difference, bullying and bystander behaviour.
Year 9
During the first half of the Summer Term have been looking at the risks, issues and the law around pornography, ‘sexting’ and sharing of nudes.
During the second half of the Summer Term they will be looking at managing risks and the law around substances, particularly vapes, alcohol and cannabis.
Year 10
During the first half of the Summer Term (either side of their exams) have been looking at online issues such the dark web and online subcultures (such as incels).
During the second half of the Summer Term they will be looking at expressing and holding different values constructively, diversity within society, and recognising extreme views.
Year 12
During the first half of the Summer Term have been looking at Post-18 finance, such as student finance, tax, PAYE and national insurance.
During the second half of the Summer Term they will be looking at online safety, considering issues such as digital footprints, misinformation, deep fakes and AI, and becoming a critical consumer of online media and recognising extreme views.
