Students Shine in the 2026 Bebras Coding Challenge

Sutton Grammar School

Computer Science students at SGS recently took part in the 2026 Bebras Coding Challenge, an international competition designed to develop pupils’ computational thinking skills through engaging, logic‑based problems.

The Bebras Coding Challenge does not require prior programming knowledge. Instead, it encourages students to think carefully about algorithms, patterns, decomposition, and logical reasoning, key skills that lie at the heart of Computer Science. Each year, thousands of students worldwide participate, making strong performances particularly impressive.

This year, our students rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, achieving a number of outstanding scores across several Bebras categories. We are delighted to recognise the following high scorers, whose results reflect both their problem‑solving ability and commitment to the subject. The competition allows students to self-select the difficulty from four categories from easiest to hardest: Novice, Explorer, Navigators, and Trailblazers.

Novice – High Scorers

The following students all achieved a perfect score of 52 in the Novice category:

Arav A (9 Manor)

Joseph B (8 Manor)

Harvey C (8 Greyhound)

Phoebus F (8 Throwley)

Jeremy K (9 Warwick)

Kang N (11 Manor)

Younes M (7 Lenham)

Jaden S (8 Greyhound)

Explorer – High Scorers

Strong performances were also seen across the Explorer challenges:

Ash D (9 Warwick) – 40

Ryan R (9 Greyhound) – 36

Navigators – High Scorers

Further excellent results in the Navigators challenges included:

Ben L (9 Throwley) – 48

Harry K (11 Greyhound) – 46

Trailblazers – High Scorers

Alex B (11 Greyhound) – 39

Nathan L (12 ET) – 33

These results demonstrate the depth of computing talent across the school, from Key Stage 3 through to Sixth Form.
