In January, sixth formers Liam, Harish, and Toby won Gold in the British Biology Olympiad; a challenging competition aimed at aspiring biologist in sixth form.
Here's what they had to say:
We took two 45-minute papers, along with 18000 other students across the country. The papers required us to apply A-level knowledge to difficult multiple-choice questions. As we received a gold award for being in the 95th percentile, we were then invited to take part in the first-round selection of the International Biology Olympiad. The hour-long paper was composed of far less questions; however, they were far more demanding. From the participants invited to do this test, only 16 will make it to the final selection round. The final 4-person team that will be selected will get to travel to and compete in the finals in Lithuania. Advancing through the rounds has been an exciting way to test our ability in biology while also gaining recognition for it, and we hope to have done well enough to advance to the final round. We strongly recommend taking part in this competition to current year 11s who plan on taking biology next year. We would also like to thank Miss Adem for organising this opportunity and supporting us throughout the journey.
