They say history is written by the winners; that is certainly true of this year's sports day report...
A student's view
Sat on the glorious green grass of Northey avenue, the booming voice of Mr Blunt realised our greatest dreams: Greyhound had done it. A year of determination, of training, of house rallies and of hard work had got us to this point. This was our first win in 30 years. Sports Day 2025 will go down in SGS history as the day when the rightful victors received their trophy. It was show of sheer strength by all those in green. You could see how much the day meant to us from the very start: my cry to leave everything on the track was met with an unparalleled roar from all of Greyhound, leaving the other houses shaking in their boots from the start. The only house with a dedicated anthem, from the very first time that the words ‘Greyhound’s on fire’ had left our lips, we knew what the outcome of the day would be. Regardless, an amazing team of house captains rallied the troops throughout the day, giving athletic advice, encouragement and congratulations in equal measure. This win would not have been possible without the leadership of the 5 titans of Greyhound. Headed by Mr Green, we led our glorious house to its rightful possession of the sports day trophy. ‘Greyhound 2025’ will forever be engraved in that beautiful piece of carpentry: a true testament to Greyhound’s strength, simply unmatched this year.

Greyhound House Master's view
It is often noted that on the eve of great events, a hush descends on all in the world, as if every one of God’s creatures lies in silent anticipation of what is about to come. So too was it on the afternoon of Friday 4th July on the green grass of Northey. The pinnacle of human athletic achievement had been on display all morning, with the records of years gone by falling to the irresistible pressure of progress. Now all waited to hear Mr Blunt announce the winner. A lone year 7 clad in blue could be heard whispering to his friend
“I’m so nervous”
Mr Green chuckled under his breath
“I would be too, if I were Manor”
Greyhound win, never in doubt. See you next year for the repeat.
