On Thursday 6th March, Sutton Grammar among other schools in the borough attended the Youth Race Summit at Throwley Way Cinema to discuss our individual thoughts on several topics regarding and any advice or suggestions that we could give from personal experiences in school or out to other schools to improve everyone's understanding and to inspire solutions to this big problem.

Racism is a systemic issue that affects individuals and communities across the world and it manifests in many forms, including discrimination in education, employment and justice systems. ”Positive racism” (where you think someone is good or have a positive image of them because of where they are from or what race they are) is still racism as although it might be an unconscious bias but it is still different judgement through race.

Some problems that I think all schools experience regarding racism is that racism has been normalised too much to the fact that it has almost become a regular experience for some people so they do not call it out. I think that we should bring awareness to this problem in particular as this definitely shouldn't be the case

Some important ideas that came from the discussion is that schools should somewhat regularly meet up to address problems like this together as some schools could be doing things differently compared to schools and might be working. Through this way, I think problems can be prevented or stopped much quicker through the ideas of many more people coming together and can create a high sense of togetherness.
