The 226th Suttonian Magazine

Your child will have returned home with the 226th issue of The Suttonian this week. Once again, the school annual captures everything we love about Sutton Grammar school: the academic brilliance, the vibrant community, the wholehearted participation. The sixth form editorial team too embody the best of SGS and they ought to be very proud of the professional publication that they have produced, alongside the enduring stewardship of Mr Marshall.

The 242 page bonanza recounts student and staff comings and goings, sporting endeavours, the arts, the CCF, an array of trips, the Old Suttonians and this year, an impressive archive section. After some diligent research by the team, the archive section contains reports of a school trip to Nazi Germany in 1935, debating society speeches from 1910 and 1942, the history of the school swimming pool and, of course, photographs of Mr Blunt through the ages.

Raiding the archives and researching school history has been a fascinating experience for our students. One day in the future, the 226th edition will be in the archives for the next generation of Suttonians to look back and marvel upon. In years to come, will they be astounded that a ski trip could run every year on now snowless mountains? Will they read in disbelief that there were only five Houses? And will they be horrified by the cruelty of cross country water jump?

We hope that you look after your edition and build a collection during your time at the school, in order to look back with nostalgia in years to come.
