Although SGS provides netball as a games option for 6th Form girls, one determined student has single handedly broken down some sporting barriers by turning out for the school’s U15 basketball team. As a keen basketballer, Hailey has been a regular at basketball practice this year – and usually helps to officiate games, controlling the electronic scoreboard. But, in a recent game against Rutlish School, Hailey was handed a match jersey, and, thanks to Coach Phipps (10L), she took to the court in the final quarter of the match.
Not only does that make Hailey the first girl to represent Sutton Grammar in the Surrey Schools Basketball League, but she also made a two point jump shot (her only shot) – making her the first girl to score points for SGS in a competitive basketball match, too.
